Name: Isaac "The Scorpion" Newman-Gomez
City: Victorville
Birthdate: 11/11/78
Bio info: I take MMA seriously. It's a job, that I love, and I'm a pro athlete.
I want to win fights, but win them in an entertaining way and excite the fans
to the best of my ability. I never can guarantee that I'm going to win my next
fight, but I do guarantee that every moment out there I will be trying to
finish the fight or setting up what is going to finish the fight.
I also feel
a responsibility to help fans understand that MMA fighters are not drunken
Neanderthals who simply charge into the middle of the cage, throw big shots and
hope for the best. They are educated, intelligent, well mannered men and women
who put in years of time in the gym to develop themselves as trained athletes.
A Mixed Martial Artist is an artist and should be respected as such. Hopefully
if the fans recognize the discipline required to excel in the sport then MMA
can shed the "tough guy" persona which is slowing our progress towards the
mainstream.
I am a legitimate heavyweight. There is no possible way I could
make 205lbs. I am 6'8" and cut to make 265lbs. I walk around at 290ish. I am
tired of heavyweights, especially at the smaller show level, getting instantly
labeled as "second rate athletes" that produce "boring hugging matches after 30
seconds of sloppy punching". I bring 5 straight minutes of technical intensity.
And if I lose I can go home knowing it wasn't for a lack of training. I did
everything I could do to win.
